Implications of OER challenge

I selected the resource that is about the use of OER for self-regulated learning.  This is the link to the resource:

Wong, TL., Xie, H., Zou, D. et al. J. Comput. Educ. (2019). https://doi.org/10.1007/s40692-019-00138-

A succinct summary of what the research was about

The research material I read investigates the students’ self-regulated learning in elementary education.  The paper brings to the forth the differences between the two teaching methods (traditional) which is teacher centered and (blended) which is enriched with open educational resources (OER).  The authors argue that the use of OER such as videos, simulations, and learning games require the matching mobile and classroom technologies, such as portable devices.  It is the view of the authors that if the OER and classroom technologies (which are referred to as teaching tools in education) are used properly they can enhance self-regulated learning of students.  The authors conducted an empirical study were they conducted three surveys (Sample size N = 149, N = 168, N = 150) to investigate the effectiveness of promoting three key aspects of self-regulated learning: learning motivation, planning and management, and self-monitoring.  They also conducted focus group interviews to collect the feedback in i-classroom learning.  They came to the conclusion that i-Classroom can help students to enhance their ability in self-regulated learning.

Two most important implicaations

  1. The use of OER need to be combined with technologies such as computers, ipads/tablets and internet.
  2. Self-regulated learning can be implemented in the i-classroom.
